Deliberately documenting a fandom's own history, its founding moments, its traditions, its notable disagreements and how they were eventually resolved, is a genuinely undervalued task that few communities actually invest real time into, even though the resulting record tends to become quite valuable to members considerably later on down the track.
Good documentation captures more than simple, dry facts, it captures the actual feeling and texture of a particular period, why a certain moment mattered so much at the time, what the community's general mood genuinely was during a specific significant event that everyone present still remembers clearly to this day.
Fandoms that take this documentation seriously, even informally through pinned posts or a simple shared timeline, tend to develop a stronger, more coherent sense of collective identity over time, since members can point to a real, shared record rather than relying purely on scattered individual memory alone, however fond it is.
