Condition plays a major role in how collectors assess an item's worth, with even small flaws, a bent corner, a faded colour, a minor scratch, potentially shifting how a piece is valued considerably within a community that pays genuinely close, sustained attention to these kinds of fine, easily overlooked details.
Learning to properly assess condition takes real practice and a trained eye, and newer collectors often rely on more experienced members of a community to help them understand exactly what separates excellent condition from merely acceptable, a distinction that can matter enormously to how confidently a piece is eventually valued.
While condition genuinely matters, the most content collectors tend to keep it in reasonable perspective, valuing a piece for what it represents personally as much as for its formally graded state. A slightly imperfect item, chosen and loved deliberately, can still hold real, considerable meaning regardless of any formal grade.
