Recognising which mode a conversation actually needs is a skill most experienced members develop quietly over time.
Many fandoms end up using both formats side by side, keeping a forum or wiki as a stable archive while feeds carry the daily chatter. Understanding which space suits which purpose helps a community avoid quietly losing its own history to the noise of the moment.
