Small Meetups Versus Large Conventions

A small meetup and a large convention serve genuinely different needs within the same broader fandom, even though both bring fans physically together in one place. A meetup offers intimacy and easy conversation, while a convention offers scale, variety and the sheer energy of a large, packed crowd of enthusiasts.
Some fans strongly prefer one format over the other, finding conventions overwhelming and meetups comfortably manageable, or finding meetups a little too quiet compared to the buzz of a proper convention weekend. Neither preference is wrong, they simply reflect different, equally valid ways of enjoying the exact same shared community.
Many fandoms end up supporting both formats side by side, with regular local meetups filling the long quiet gaps between larger annual conventions. Together, the two create a fuller, more complete social calendar than either format could realistically provide entirely on its own throughout the whole year, season after season.
