Beyond wikis, many fan communities maintain other dedicated resources entirely run by volunteers, timelines, glossaries, curated reading guides, all built and maintained purely out of genuine enthusiasm rather than any obligation, and offered freely to the wider community without expecting anything meaningful in return for the considerable, ongoing effort involved.
These resources often become genuinely essential infrastructure for a community, quietly relied upon by far more members than ever actually contribute to building or maintaining them, a common and largely accepted pattern across most genuinely well organised volunteer projects run quietly by fans purely for the benefit of other fans.
Recognising and properly thanking the people who maintain these resources helps sustain the considerable, largely invisible effort behind them, since volunteer projects like this tend to falter without at least some visible appreciation reaching back to the small, dedicated group of people actually doing the ongoing, unglamorous work involved behind the scenes.
