Cosplay is the practice of dressing as a favourite character, often with real, considerable effort put into accuracy, and conventions are traditionally where this hobby is most visibly celebrated and shared among people who genuinely understand exactly how much work went into any given costume on display.
Wearing a costume at a convention is as much about performance and community as it is about craft. Many cosplayers enjoy briefly stepping into a character's posture or personality for the day, while others focus purely on the construction itself and treat the wearing part as simply secondary to the making.
Convention cosplay culture generally runs on mutual respect: asking politely before taking someone's photo, complimenting genuine effort regardless of skill level, and never touching a costume without permission first. These small, consistent courtesies are what keep cosplay feeling welcoming rather than intimidating for newcomers trying it for the very first time at their first event.
