Good spoiler etiquette starts with a simple, generous assumption: not everyone has consumed something at the exact same pace you have, and giving people the genuine choice to avoid details before they are ready is a small, considerate courtesy well worth extending consistently to friends and complete strangers alike, without exception.

This means clear, upfront warnings before discussing anything recent, respecting a friend's specific request to avoid a topic entirely for a while, and resisting the small, sometimes tempting urge to hint knowingly at what happens next even without stating it directly and plainly to whoever happens to be listening nearby.

As a work ages, spoiler expectations naturally shift, and what once required a careful warning eventually becomes treated as common, shared knowledge within a fandom. Even then, a genuinely considerate fan checks first, rather than simply assuming an older detail is universally known to absolutely everyone in the room.
