Migrating a Community to a New Platform

Sometimes a community outgrows its original platform, or the platform itself changes in ways that no longer suit the group, prompting a difficult, often anxious decision to migrate an entire community somewhere else while trying carefully to bring as many members along as genuinely possible during an often anxious, uncertain process.
Migrations are genuinely risky moments for a community, since not everyone follows immediately, some members drift away entirely during the transition, and the new platform inevitably changes how conversation actually flows, sometimes for the better and sometimes in ways that quietly take real time for the whole group to properly adjust to.
Communities that migrate successfully tend to over communicate throughout the process, explaining clearly why the move is happening, giving people plenty of advance notice, and patiently maintaining a presence on the old platform for a while so nobody is simply left behind or confused by the sudden change.
