An artist alley is the dedicated section of a convention where independent artists sell their own work directly to fans: prints, badges, stickers and original pieces inspired by shared, beloved fandoms. It functions as a small, temporary marketplace built entirely around genuine fan creativity and craft.
Browsing an artist alley slowly and unhurried is very much part of the tradition, since many pieces on display are one of a kind or produced in only small runs. Chatting briefly with the artist sitting behind a table, rather than treating it like an anonymous shop, is generally welcomed warmly and appreciated.
For artists themselves, an alley table is often their main chance each year to meet the people who genuinely enjoy their work in person, turning an online following into a direct, face to face exchange for a few precious, memorable days. That yearly meeting is often treasured as much as any sale made across the table.
