A panel gathers fans together in one room to hear a discussion, whether led by fellow enthusiasts or occasionally by people connected to the original work, and to ask questions afterward. It turns a shared interest into a live, in person conversation rather than a scattered, drifting online thread.
Part of the appeal is simply being in a room where nobody present needs the topic explained to them from scratch. Jokes land instantly, references need no footnote whatsoever, and questions can go genuinely deep because everyone in the room already shares the same baseline knowledge and enthusiasm.
The best panels leave plenty of room for genuine exchange rather than a one way presentation from the front. Attendees often say the audience questions, and the unexpected answers those questions draw out, are the part of any panel they remember most clearly afterward. A panel without any audience questions tends to feel oddly one sided by the end.
